lyrics

He is a master crafter
A carver of alabaster

Married to his art
He buried his heart long ago
Where it grew cold and hard as stone

But his loneliness persists
And he’s sure the cure to this
Is his very own Venus de Milo

Perfection set in stone; he would cast her
So he carved himself a girl from alabaster

Nights and days whittled away
He barely slept, he scarcely ate
Until one day they stood face to face

She was so lovely
As smooth as milk and honey
She was plucked from his dreams all a goddess ever could be

Soon she became his alter, he was praying to her sculpture
“Oh lord give her life so that I may adore her”

He could almost hear the soft sound of her laughter
Oh he carved himself a girl from alabaster

He laid a fevered cheek upon her breast
Pleading with the gods to turn her stone to flesh
And just when he couldn’t feel any more desperate
He felt the rise and fall of her chest

She’s in his arms now
in a warm embrace but somehow
There lies an ache, a missing a piece- she’s an empty shell

A perfect form with an angel’s face
but born from dust she hasn’t learned to love him so well
She’s a living masterpiece, his miracle disaster

He carved himself a girl from alabaster
